Is RedM official?
Yes. RedM is developed by the Cfx.re team, which also makes FiveM and has been part of Rockstar Games since 2023. It is the only supported way to run custom servers for Red Dead Redemption 2.

RedM is the official multiplayer platform for the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2, made by the team behind FiveM. Here you can find servers from your scene, see where people are playing right now and follow the guide from installation to your first day on the ranch.

Star the servers you play on. Next time you'll see right here how many people are on them.

From installation to your first day on the ranch
Before installing RedM, launch the game through your launcher, let it finish updating and continue to the main menu. Then close it.
Download the installer from redm.net and run it. RedM installs in its own folder and finds Red Dead Redemption 2 — if it cannot find the game, point it to the game folder manually.
If you already have an account from FiveM, use it. Many servers will not let you in unless you are signed in.
Click Connect next to a server on this page — the official cfx.re page opens with a button that takes you into the game. Alternatively, press F8 in RedM and type connect cfx.re/join/code (copy the code with the Copy link button).
RP servers on RedM use allowlists more often than FiveM servers. Join their Discord, read the rules and complete a character application — usually with a short story explaining where your cowboy came from.
Choose your microphone in the settings and test push-to-talk. Key bindings often differ from the story mode — you can find the interaction key in the rules or on the server's Discord.
The most common problems and how to fix them
| Problem | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| RedM cannot find the game | Red Dead Redemption 2 is in a different folder from the one RedM expects. | When it launches, manually point RedM to the folder containing RDR2.exe. |
| RedM will not launch after a game update | Rockstar has released a new version of the game that RedM does not support yet. | Wait for a RedM update, usually no more than a few days. Check redm.net and the server's Discord. |
| The game crashes while loading a server | Corrupted data in the RedM cache or an incomplete game installation. | Verify the game files in the launcher and clear the cache in the RedM settings. Then connect again. |
| The server will not let you in | An allowlist, a full server, or Discord or Steam not running in the background. | Check the server's Discord to see whether you have been approved, and keep both Discord and Steam running. |

No. The PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is enough. Red Dead Online is Rockstar's official online mode and is unrelated to RedM.
No. RedM only works with the PC version of the game — custom servers are not available on PlayStation or Xbox.
They are the most widely used frameworks underpinning RP servers on RedM. They determine how the economy, inventory and jobs work. Players do not need to install anything — it downloads automatically when they connect.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has a smaller PC community and RedM is a younger project. Scenes in individual countries are smaller but tend to be more close-knit — many servers build around long-running character stories.
Do you also play GTA? The FiveM server browser works the same way, while the Servers page shows you where people are playing across all multiplayer platforms right now.
