Ten theories that are circulating amongst players

These are not our claims. They are ideas circulating among players, and we examine what each one is based on. A rumour claims that something is true. A theory says: this is what we saw, and this is what someone inferred from it. The difference is that a theory's reasoning can be tested. For each one, we therefore set out the arguments for and against it, and give our own view.

None of this is confirmed, and we do not present any of it as fact. What Rockstar has announced can be found among the confirmed claims in the rumour tracker.

01

Some players think Lucia is the dominant half of the pair

Almost every article describes Jason as the criminal who drags Lucia down with him. But viewed shot by shot, the trailer suggests the opposite.

what suggests this

  • In the shop robbery scene, Lucia goes first and Jason follows her.
  • She kicks the door open.
  • In the scene where they discuss trust, she is physically above him — and that is rarely accidental in the composition of a shot.
  • Rockstar states that Lucia served time in Leonida Penitentiary. Jason's background includes the military and work for local drug runners, which suggests the position of a foot soldier rather than a boss.

what opposes it

  • A trailer is an edit. It shows what is meant to attract attention, not the balance of power in the story.
  • In GTA V, Rockstar changed who took the lead depending on the mission. There was no fixed hierarchy.
  • A character's position in a shot is an interpretation of the camerawork, not the script. Plenty can be read into it.

what we think of it

The strongest argument here is not the composition of the shot, but Rockstar's own description. Lucia has served time in prison; Jason worked for drug runners. Those are two different levels of experience in the same world. Expecting the more experienced one to lead makes more sense than the reverse — but it is an expectation, not information.

02

Part of the community is convinced that Jason is an undercover police officer

This theory has persisted the longest and rests on small details that are easy to miss on a first viewing.

what suggests this

  • He wears his watch face on the inside of his wrist — a habit taught in the military to stop the glass reflecting light and revealing a position.
  • Rockstar has confirmed that Jason served in the military.
  • The community interprets his posture and clothing as signs of training.
  • A betrayal within the pair would give the story a second layer that GTA V did not have.

what opposes it

  • Many civilians wear watches this way too. On its own, it is not a clue, merely a detail.
  • Rockstar mentions the military, not the police. They are two different things.
  • The series already used a variation on the undercover-police theme with Michael's co-operation with the FIB in GTA V. Repeating it would not be a surprise.

what we think of it

Two different claims that are constantly merged into one need to be separated here. Jason's military background is confirmed. That he works for the police is not, and the only support for it is an interpretation of his body language. Our bet: the first part is true and the second is not — but it is still a bet.

03

A widespread theory says it will end like Bonnie and Clyde

Rockstar has never stated this parallel, but built the trailer in a way that invites viewers to draw it themselves.

what suggests this

  • A couple on the run who stand together against everyone else fit that archetype precisely.
  • The second trailer gives an unusual amount of space to their relationship — laughter, touch and quiet moments. Those elements are unlikely to be placed in a crime game without being developed further.
  • The real Bonnie and Clyde were shot dead in a car. If the parallel is deliberate, the ending comes with it.

what opposes it

  • GTA has never killed both protagonists. In GTA V, the player chooses the ending.
  • A tragic ending is commercially awkward for a game expected to sell a sequel and an online mode.
  • Journalists and fans drew the parallel, not Rockstar.

what we think of it

The trailer clearly shows Rockstar drawing on the archetype of a couple on the run. It does not follow that the story must have a particular ending — an archetype defines the starting point, not the final scene. Something else is more interesting: the series has never given this much space to quiet moments in a relationship. That is a change worth watching, however the story ends.

04

Reports everywhere say the map will be twice the size of GTA V's

This figure was everywhere for three years with no source behind it. Then Rockstar finally said it itself.

what suggests this

  • Leonida is an entire state, not a single city. In geographical terms, that logically means more land than Los Santos and its surroundings.
  • The trailer shows coastline, wetlands, countryside and urban development.
  • The 2022 leak contained material suggesting a larger area.

what opposes it

  • For three years Rockstar gave no size for the map — not in a trailer, not on the website, not in investor materials. The ratios only came in interviews around the extended look in August 2026, long after the figure had spread.
  • The leaked build was years old and unfinished. Scope can change in either direction during development.
  • The figure ‘twice’ appears in articles without a source, with one article copying it from another.

what we think of it

In August 2026 it turned out the estimate was close: Rockstar itself said the map is three times the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2 and that Vice City is twice the size of Los Santos. That does not mean the claim was backed up for three years — it just happened to land near the mark. This is exactly how a fact grows out of nothing: someone estimated, a second person copied it without quotation marks, a third then cited the second. An area in kilometres, incidentally, Rockstar has still never given.

06

The studio's history suggests that the PC version will arrive later

This theory is based not on the trailer, but on what Rockstar has done over the past ten years.

what suggests this

  • GTA V was released on consoles in September 2013 and on PC in April 2015 — a gap of about a year and a half.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on consoles in October 2018, followed by the PC version in November 2019.
  • The GTA 6 announcement names only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. PC is not included.

what opposes it

  • The market has changed since 2015, and PC now accounts for a larger share of revenue.
  • Rockstar has never said there will be no PC version — it simply has not discussed one yet.
  • Two previous cases form a pattern, not a rule.

what we think of it

Of all the theories on this page, this one has the firmest basis because it relies not on interpreting a shot, but on two documented release dates. That still is not proof — only the best available estimate. Until Rockstar says otherwise, the position remains that a PC version has not been announced.

07

The apartment building in the Extended Look reportedly copies a real building from the Dexter TV series

On 27 August 2026 a fan posted the Extended Look footage side by side with a photo of a real Miami building on X. The match is striking — but it’s a comparison of two pictures, not anything Rockstar has confirmed.

what suggests this

  • The account Saukko505 compared a waterfront apartment building from the footage to the Bay Harbor Club at 1155 103rd St in Bay Harbor Islands, Miami, which the show Dexter used for exterior shots of the main character’s home.
  • The T-shaped layout, the circular exterior staircase, and the walkway pattern between floors all match — three independent details at once, not just a general style resemblance.
  • Vice City in GTA 6 returns to Miami after more than twenty years, and Rockstar has a long history of hidden references to real places and pop culture throughout the series.

what opposes it

  • T-shaped waterfront buildings with circular staircases were a common architectural style in 1960s and ’70s Miami — the match may be shared period aesthetics rather than intent.
  • It’s a comparison of two images by one fan, not an analysis backed by a second independent source.
  • Rockstar hasn’t commented on any Dexter connection, and the 26-minute recording contains dozens of buildings — some resemblance to something real is likely even without intent, given that volume.

what we think of it

It’s a fun spot, not a documented fact. Three matching architectural details at once is more than you’d expect from pure coincidence, so we’re not dismissing it — but it remains one fan’s visual comparison, not something confirmed by Rockstar or a second independent source.

08

Game Informer has prompted expectations that a hurricane will hit Leonida

Game Informer's cover story promises weather that simulates even Florida's ‘less sunny’ phenomena. The community immediately interpreted that as storms, flooding, and a hurricane.

what suggests this

  • Game Informer explicitly describes weather systems that recreate Florida's less sunny side — and hurricanes are the state's most characteristic example.
  • The same article also promises wildlife on land, in the air, and at sea — Rockstar is clearly taking its simulation of Florida's natural environment seriously.
  • In Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar built dynamic weather with snow and mud that respond to the player. This would be a technical progression from that.

what opposes it

  • The word hurricane never appears. ‘Less sunny phenomena’ could mean thunderstorms, heavy rain, or fog.
  • A fully dynamic hurricane that destroys the open world would be costly in both performance and game design — and seems less likely on consoles where Rockstar itself is discussing 30fps.
  • A hurricane could be confined to a single scripted mission rather than operate as an open-world system.

what we think of it

After Game Informer's wording, severe storms and torrential rain seem almost certain. A hurricane as a random open-world event is a gamble; a hurricane as a scripted mission or story beat is considerably more plausible. Only the article itself and the game will settle it.

Tracks from GTA VI: The Album will play on the in-game radio

Rockstar will release an album of 34 original tracks alongside the game. Players see it as a quiet substitute for a radio-station announcement — if Rockstar commissioned new songs, surely they must play in the game too.

what suggests this

  • The album launches on the same day as the game and is explicitly inspired by Vice City and Leonida.
  • Rockstar has done this before: Welcome to Los Santos (2015) featured original tracks that were also added to the in-game station The Lab.
  • The artists span rap, reggaeton, country, electronic music, and rock — exactly the genres GTA separates into stations.

what opposes it

  • Rockstar has never said the album will appear in the game. The announcement discusses only the album.
  • The album could be purely a launch marketing product, like merchandise.
  • Not even the GTA 6 station names have been confirmed — linking specific songs to them goes one step further.

what we think of it

We consider it likely that at least part of the album will appear in the game — otherwise it would be hard to see why Rockstar paid for 34 new tracks themed around Leonida. But whether all 34 will play on the radio, and how they would be divided, is pure guesswork. Until release, this is a theory, not information.

10

Trailer 3 will arrive before release

The album, the collector's box, the Game Informer cover — the marketing campaign is in full swing. The community expects it to culminate in a third trailer before 19 November.

what suggests this

  • Rockstar released a launch trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 a few days before the game came out.
  • September brought three major official moves in two weeks — that pace does not usually stop just before launch.
  • Preloading begins a week before release; a trailer would be a natural accompaniment.

what opposes it

  • Rockstar has been extremely sparing with GTA 6 videos — almost a year and a half passed between the first and second trailers.
  • With Game Informer and the album now promoting the game, another video may not be necessary.
  • Rockstar has not hinted at either a date or the existence of another trailer.

what we think of it

We expect some kind of video before release — launch trailers are customary for Rockstar. Whether it will be a full Trailer 3 with new story material or a short launch montage is impossible to predict. Do not trust any ‘leaked date’ without a source.

Do you want to separate these facts from rumour?

The rumour tracker sorts each statement by who makes it and how it’s supported. GTA 6 Online is still almost entirely guesswork — exactly the kind of topic theories are for.
