“Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look” is the first time a major reveal in the series appeared somewhere other than the publisher's own channels: Netflix had it exclusively for six hours, then it went to YouTube. It has been freely available ever since, and this page describes its contents.
The order here is deliberate. What Rockstar said itself comes first. Below that, the figures from press interviews, each naming the person who said it — because these are precisely the numbers that travel the internet without a source. Then a description of the systems from the recording, and finally a list of what the presentation did not answer.
What the presentation explained about the game's systems
A description of what is visible in the recording, plus what Rockstar told journalists about it. It is not a feature list from a press release — no such release exists.
Six wanted stars, and the police have to work out who they are looking for
Wanted levelThe sixth star returns after GTA V, where five was the maximum. What sits underneath matters more: the police have to learn about the crime first — from a witness or an alarm. An on-screen indicator shows what they know about you: face, clothes, vehicle, how many of you there are. Each of those descriptions can be invalidated separately. Change your whole outfit, change your haircut, ditch the stolen car. A mask worn during the job means the cameras never had your face. And when the police know they are chasing a pair, Jason and Lucia can split up and split the response with it.
Switching between Jason and Lucia is not just a choice on the map
The pairSwitching works as it did in GTA V, but the presentation frames it differently: both are in the action at once. One drives, the other shoots from the back seat — and the roles can be swapped. In a scene inside a tower block, Lucia texts Jason how many opponents are ahead of him while he works through the floor. Outside missions they talk, hold hands, argue about what to wear.
Robberies are a decision, not a script
MoneyThe presentation frames them as a choice between speed and takings: the safe can be blown open at once, or you can search for the combination and leave with more money and a smaller head start. Locations tend to have a second exit. A fence buys the stolen goods and also points out where there is more to take. At certain points in the story the money is not optional — without it, the story does not move on.
Stealing a car has rules of its own
VehiclesCars differ by security level and the better ones need better tools, which unlock as the story goes on. A phone app — shown as WAINK — scans a car before the theft and reveals its value, its alarm and whether it has a tracker. A damaged car sells for less. The boot carries spare weapons and spare clothes, which ties straight back into the wanted system.
The phone is an object, not a menu
PhoneThe character holds it and looks into it. Inside there is a social-media parody, Snapmatic for photos and a Ryde Me ride service — you can talk to the driver on the way. Jason and Lucia do not post themselves; they are on the run.
The character changes with what you do
AppearanceHair can be trimmed at home or restyled at a barber, clothes are bought store by store and each shop has a different range. The body reacts to food and exercise. Food also heals. This is not cosmetics off to one side — hair and clothing are the same things the police are looking for.
The shooting keeps the series' habits, with more detail
CombatThe over-the-shoulder view stays. What is new: cover that adapts to whatever you are standing behind, a slow-motion beat after a kill, the option to shoot at limbs or disarm an opponent instead of killing them, and Jason's ability, which separates lethal from non-lethal zones while aiming. The environment falls apart around it — glass, furniture, monitors.
A criminal profile tracks how you do it
ReputationThe game keeps a record of the way you commit crimes and feeds it into how others react to the pair. Rockstar does not describe it as good-versus-evil morality, more as a profile.
There is more to do outside missions than shooting
Free timeThe recording includes basketball, pool, the gym, swimming, scuba diving, kayaking, fishing, base jumping, race circuits for cars and bikes, jet skis, mini golf and a zoo. The wetlands have airboats. Animals can be examined and logged in a list.
How it ran
One item is from Rockstar, the rest is analysis and statements to journalists
From RockstarThe recording is gameplay on a base PS5
This one Rockstar stated itself. It is not PC footage and not a Pro.
Digital Foundry analysisNative 1440p at 30 frames per second, no upscaling
An analysis of the recording, not an official figure. Digital Foundry puts it down to crowd density, weather, physics and traffic loading the console's processor.
UndecidedA higher frame-rate mode is not promised
Going by statements at the press showings, Rockstar has not said whether the consoles will get a performance mode. Nobody has confirmed or ruled it out for the PS5 Pro.
From RockstarThe recording is downloadable in 4K
Rockstar made the whole block available to download from the official game website. The file is around 14 GB.

What this changed about things we wrote earlier
We stood behind it, so we have to rewrite it too
Nobody has announced the size of the map.
We wroteWhat holds now: True until 27 August. Rockstar has now given the ratio to Red Dead Redemption 2 and to Los Santos. An area in square kilometres is still unannounced by anyone.
Rockstar said nothing about the content of the presentation.
We wroteWhat holds now: Accurate until the premiere. The content is now out, and this page is made of it.
The length of the game is unannounced.
We wroteWhat holds now: It still is. Eighty hours is one specific playthrough by one person at the studio, not an official campaign length — and it includes side content.
